Hello and Welcome Back, I don't know about you all but I have had quite a shaky start to the school year! I did want to make you all aware of some upcoming events.

STRINGFEST, Brandywine Invitational Festival Orchestra will be November 19th, 2012, at PS Dupont Middle School - a day of String- Centered Professional Development and Student Clinic ending with a combined side by side performance.

State Music Day is March 10th 2012 it will be held along side All State Junior and Senior Band Festival. I would love to get ideas from all of you as far as clinicians that you would like to have for our string strand. There will be an all-call for presenters, however I would like to personally invite the people we would like to see. This year we will be applying everything we are learning from these sessions into a real classroom situation.. for example we will not just learn how to open Sibelius and be given definitions of the function keys ... we will be shown how to incorporate using Sibelius in a String classroom, recording accompaniment, rewriting parts, instant clef transpositions and so on... Let me know if there is anything you would like to see or want to learn more about. BRING YOUR INSTRUMENTS! We will have a reading session incorporated into the day, so, if you have any pieces that you would like to share I will be collecting parts to make up the reading folders. We just got Alfred Music Publishing, FJH Music Publishing, J W Pepper, The Electric Violin Shop, and Music and Arts to come with GOODIES and Give-aways with more to come! YEAH! Don't forget to send in the forms- email and faxes are fine if the checks are in the mail :-) Hope to see you all soon! Students can still come if directors and teachers can't make it and directors can still come if they don't have students. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns for the day the wheels are still turning :-) Pass it on to as many string educators as you can...

All State Orchestra Excerpts Update to Cello and Bass Parts

*** Cello: The second Nabucco excerpt is Pizzicato from 9 until one bar before 11.

And, just to clarify, though it is written in the parts, on the last page of the capriccio espagnol.

***Cello and Bass: Z - 6 after Z should be played as 8th notes and not 16th notes. And, 5 + 6 bars before the end should be replaced with the two handwritten measures below.

Newark High School Orchestras to Perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC

The ensemble performed works by Bach, Vivaldi, and Frescobaldi and featured student soloists Caroline Beston, James Idsardi, Enoch Lee, Megan Rise, Sarah Song and Elliot Ting. The program concluded with St. Paul’s Suite, a challenging work written by English composer Gustav Holst for his student orchestra in 1912.
